Raising awareness of mesothelioma

The June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund (JHMRF) was founded in 1997 to raise awareness of mesothelioma, fund research, support patients and carers and, more recently, to campaign for the Mesothelioma Charter. JHMRF is the UK’s first and largest independent mesothelioma charity. We have raised more than £1.5 million, the majority of which being spent on research into the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma and the care of people with the disease.

Our funding in action:

Trials of an experimental cancer vaccine begin

JHMRF funded research into using the body’s own immune system to fight mesothelioma is proceeding to a clinical trial. Fund trustees said they were delighted that the laboratory work carried out by Dr Zsuzsanna Tabi’s team of cancer immunologists at Cardiff University was moving into an exciting new phase with trials of an experimental cancer vaccine.

Something positive in the face of such tragedy

To say I am proud of what we have achieved so far is an understatement. We started out after my Mum, June Hancock’s death from mesothelioma in 1997 with a target of £40,000. More than 28 years later we have raised in excess of £1.5 million.
